CS-AP
Certification Standard

The CS-AP credential is awarded to practitioners who demonstrate — under examination conditions — that they can deliver an ISSA 5000 sustainability assurance engagement from acceptance and planning through risk assessment, evidence, and reporting. The certificate is the record of that applied capability. The certification is awarded only where a candidate meets a defined standard of applied knowledge, professional judgement, and methodological reasoning appropriate to ISSA 5000 assurance scenarios. The credential reflects performance against a rigorous, examiner-set assessment as at the date of award. It indicates capability to apply ISSA 5000 requirements to novel engagement circumstances, evaluate evidence under uncertainty, and justify assurance conclusions in regulatory or review settings.
ASSESSMENT FORMAT

A written examination that tests applied engagement capability

The examined certification is designed to test applied judgement under realistic engagement conditions. It is administered online, is not proctored, and candidates may access reference materials during the examination — because the discipline being tested is what practitioners do with the standard, not whether they can recite it. Questions cannot be answered through simple lookup.

SECTION A - MULTIPLE CHOICE

43 questions

Knowledge & Procedural Application

Multiple-choice questions across all eight modules verifying command of ISSA 5000 requirements, definitions, and procedural obligations — the knowledge base every practitioner must carry into the engagement before judgement enters the picture. Auto-graded via the Brillium assessment platform.
SECTION B - ESSAY

11 questions

Applied Judgement & Methodology

Scenario-based questions requiring candidates to apply ISSA 5000 methodology to realistic engagement situations: planning an assurance engagement for a CSRD-reporting manufacturer, assessing materiality for a mining group's Scope 3 disclosures, evaluating evidence sufficiency for value-chain data, determining appropriate conclusion types on contested evidence. Assessed against examiner-set rubric criteria.
PASS STANDARD

Clear, consistent standards applied to every candidate

The assessment is graded on a pass/fail basis. There is no partial credit, no grades, and no score disclosure. Results are issued within fourteen days of assessment submission.

ASSESSMENT DESIGN

Designed to test applied capability, not recall

The examination combines knowledge verification, applied-judgement scenarios, evidence-evaluation exercises, and conclusion-formation tasks under engagement ambiguity. Candidates who have worked through the practitioner programme's case-study walkthroughs find the format familiar; candidates who have only memorised the standard do not.

Questions require application of ISSA 5000 principles to novel circumstances, not recall of prescribed answers. The assessment is designed to distinguish practitioners who understand the standard's methodology from those who have only memorised its text.

Candidates who do not pass may reattempt the assessment. Reattempt conditions and fees are specified in the Terms and Conditions. There is no appeal process for assessment results. The assessment is designed and marked to professional examination standards; marking decisions are final.
